A mathematics contest is a competitive event in which students complete a mathematics test. Mathematics contests are designed to identify and nurture talented students, to stimulate interest and encourage excellence.
The International Mathematics Olympiad was initiated in 1959 in Romania with seven countries taking part. In 2025, 110 countries participated, an indication of the strong global interest in mathematics contests.
